Hollis is 1 Month Old!

Wow! What an amazing month this has been. Zann and I are just in awe of our baby girl. We feel like she has been a part of our lives forever. What I can't believe is how much she has grown in a month.

We spent her first five days being spoiled at Hirslanden hospital where we spent our time just looking at our new baby.

My Mom and Dad were here for the next five days and they just fell in love with Mary Hollis. We had a very relaxing week with them with a few outings.

My mom stayed for the next 10 days and good thing she did because I became a little bit under the weather. She was super woman and did all of our cooking, cleaning, and took care of Hollis at night. I don't know what I would have done with out her.

We have since adjusted great to being a family of three and every day bring something new and exciting that Hollis has done.

Hollis, here is what you have been up to in your first month.
- You like to be on your tummy at some points during the day and have been able to turn your head side to side since you were 3 days old. You are a strong little girl!

- You eat every three hours during the day and make lots of noise while eating. You sound like a little dinosaur so we think you love eating.

-You love being in your bugaboo. For the first three weeks you would always fall asleep while we were walking but now you wake up sometimes and love to look around and look at the toy hanging in your stroller.

- You also love the baby bjorn. We go on walks in the morning on the trail and you just fall asleep all snuggled up. Your Dad carried you in the baby bjorn almost all last weekend when we were out and you loved it. This week I folded down the front and let you look around while we were getting stuff done around the house. We sure hope you like if for flying on the airplane.

- You are starting to like your swing. You like to be in it for about 15 minutes while the music is playing and look at the animals hanging above your head. So far you have only fallen asleep in it twice.

- Your Dad swaddles your every night before going to bed and you love being wrapped up tight. During one of your naps during the day I put you in your Woombie sack in your crib so you can sleep well.

- We still don't have a nap schedule down. We are out and about many times when you are to take a nap and  you just sleep here and there in your stroller. At home in the afternoon you don't like to nap very much. The other day you stayed awake from 3:00-8:00 straight (doesn't leave me very much time to get things done).

- From the beginning you have slept pretty well at night. For the first 2 1/2 weeks you went to bed around 10 and woke up at 2 and 5 to eat. At three weeks you started going to bed at 9:30 and waking up between 3:30 and 4:00 and then would wake up for the day between 7:30 and 9:30. When you wake up in the night you just eat and go straight back to sleep. But now two nights this week (5 weeks old) you have slept all night! The first night you slept for 9 hours straight from 9:30-6:30 then ate and went back to sleep until 9:00. Last night you slept from 9:30- 9:00 this morning. We couldn't believe it!! You are such a good girl!

- You are becoming more alert every day. You love to look at the black and white pictures we have on the wall. You also love to sit in your Boppy under your activity mat and look at the animals.

- You started smiling about a week and a half ago and it just melts our heats! You have also started laughing a little bit and making noises when you play.

- You are very good when ever we are out. You are such a little angle when we have gone to people's houses.

-This week we went to Baby Sensory and you were looking all around listening to the sounds. You also held a rattle and liked when your hand would move and it would make noise. We also went to a yoga class for me and you got to have your own little yoga mat. You kicked and played before you took a nap on your tummy while I stretched.

- Your  changing pad is your happy place (except if I am putting your onsie over your head). You just kick and laugh when we are changing your diaper.

- While we eat dinner you chill in your bouncy seat rock or take a little cat nap.

- You LOVE LOVE bath time. Every night your dad gives you a bath in the big bath tub. You would stay there all night if we let you. You are such a little swimmer and kick and splash  the whole time and get so relaxed. You have started to get very angry when we take you out of the bath and your face turns bright red from screaming. But you are a happy girl again when you get your pjs on.

- You love you Daddy and just stare at him when he holds you. It makes me so very happy. When he leaves the room when you are on the changing table you tilt your head way back to see where he went and look all around.

You are just sweetest best little baby Hollis. You are so chill and only cry if you need something and you stop as soon as your Daddy or I pick you up. We never imagined how much we would love you and how much fun we would have with you. We love watching all the new things you are learning but hope you let us hold you like a little baby forever.

Weekend Recap

**Well I started this post last Sunday and just coming back to finish at 5am on Saturday morning. Time with a newborn is sure busy but I want to make sure to remember our early days with our little baby. And I am not awake right now because of Hollis, I am just awake with too many things to do on my mind.**

My time in the past 3 weeks has been spent loving on and looking at our beautiful little girl but I don't want to forget about the old blog. I really want to document Hollis growing up so am really going to try and be better at updating this time.

We had a great relaxing weekend. It was our first weekend at home as a family of three since the hospital. My parents were here the past two weekends and we miss them terribly! But we had a very nice relaxing weekend just the three of us.

Friday I was very tired when Zann got home from work after having a baby who did not want to take a nap when I wanted to take a nap. We just had pasta for dinner and had an early night as soon as Hollis went to bed. I was able to pump a couple bottles during the week so Zann was nice enough to get up with Hollis Friday and Saturday night. Though I did wake up when he did to make sure she was ok but I was able to go back to sleep. Having a longer stretch of sleep made all the difference.

Saturday morning Hollis had her newborn pictures taken. She was such a sweet girl all morning. She was wide awake for almost two hours while we dressed and undressed her a million times and moved her into all sorts of positions. I don't think she even cried once. Her pictures are precious and I can't wait to share them once we pick the ones we want to use.
Here is one of the last picture we took (this is with my camera so not good quality) and she was tired out. I just love this picture. She is wearing the pearls that Zann gave me the second Christmas we were dating.

After all the picture taking we all took a little nap. I woke up to find these two sweets on the couch. Zann said he was lonely so he got Hollis out of her crib.

We had our first trip to the store in the Baby Bjorn.

Saturday night Mike and Milene came over for dinner to meet Hollis. Hollis loved just looking at Milene.

Sunday we had a very lazy day and stayed in our pjs until afternoon. Hollis kept her pjs on all day actually. She is wearing my favorite Kissy Kissy pjs and they are already almost too small for her. I keep putting her in them hoping its not the last time.

In the afternoon we took a walk around the "neighborhood". There is an Epilepsy clinic right down the street that has a petting zoo, playground, and a beautiful panoramic view of the lake. We found a bench and enjoyed the sunshine for a while.

It was the perfect fall day.

Walking around the neighborhood.

Hollis also tired out her swing for the first time. She didn't know what to think. There was music coming from one side, animals over her head, and rocking back and forth. She liked it for about 5 minutes then I think it was a bit much for her. We will try again this week.

I just loved our weekend as a family of 3 with nothing on the agenda just spending time together.

New Favorite Places

Our end of summer weather in Zurich has been absolutely beautiful! Temperatures have been about 80 for a few weeks and have slowly cooled off into the 70's.

We have enjoyed spending time outside on the weekends and I have found two of my favorite spots in Zurich.

I spent some lovely days with the ICS ladies at the Kusnacht beach before school started and was dying to take Zann there. A couple weekends ago we meet some friends there for a fun day in the sun and some swimming.

This place is picture perfect on the lake with REAL sand! This is the only place in Zurich we have seen with real sand which makes it so much nicer to walk into the water instead of climbing over big rocks.

The Juker Farm pumpkin patch also tops my list. I had not been to a pumpkin patch since taking 4 classes of kindergardners a couple years ago in the freezing cold. So needless to say I enjoyed this beautiful sunny day at the pumpkin patch along the lake with out thirty 5 year olds to watch over.

We enjoyed walking around and seeing the huge pumpkins that raced in the Pumpkin Regatta the day before.

We sat in the sun and enjoyed the scenary.

And had a some delicious soup before buying a little pumpkin to make soup with and a butternut squash.

I can't wait to take Baby H back when my parents are here to pick out her first pumpkin!

Pregnant with Friends

Baby fever is all around!! Just this week I have had 3 friends (from Switzerland and the US) announce they are pregnant! What wonderful news to hear!!

I have been lucky enough to be pregnant at the same time as some great friends. It has been such a great experience to share this time with close friends.

Bridget and I both found out we were pregnant with in a week of eachother and shared the news with eachother from the first day. Out due dates are (well not was since Bridget's came and went yesterday) six  days apart so we have lived every moment of our pregnancies together. We shared an office this year at school which was hilarious. Two blondes with huge bumps often found out of breath from walking up all the stairs to our office. Pretty comical! Our fridge was always stocked with yummy goodies and we would both be jumping from opposite sides of the room from strong kicks. We were often walking down the hall together and that was a sight to see since we resemble eachother to begin with, have matching bellies, and wore the same color combination many times unplanned. We got many double takes. Bridget has already gone through pregnancy once so it was so nice to have an expert friend to ask questions to and reassure me of certain things. I can't wait for us to be on maternity leave together for the next couple months.

Two days after sharing the news of Baby H with the PVI girls Alex shared her awesome news that she was pregnant also due 2 days before me. I was so excited when I heard this news. We have lived all the moments of our pregnancies together via the internet. We were both lucky with easy pregnancies but always had the exact same feelings at the same time. When ever Alex emailed about how she was feeling, I felt like she was describing my day. I loved being able to write her and ask if she was having certain feelings or symptoms and getting a response back that she felt that way also. The S7 junior members are due any day now. I can't wait to see if they will be born on the same day and for them to meet at Christmas time. It will also be so nice to have someone with a baby the exact same age to chat with about how the babies are sleeping, eating, etc.

Over 4th of July weekend, The Beckers shared their very exciting news that they are expecting also. Mr. Williams's Party now has junior members. Mandy and I got to talk all baby over the summer when we were together and now get to chat baby over Skype. Our babies are going to be fast video friends and then hopefully not too long after will get to meet in person.

Day trip to Lucernce

Well my hunting for baby items we "needed" to have lead us to a little get away on Sunday to Lucerne. I am a member of a couple yahoo groups that post questions, share info, and sell things in and around Zurich. A couple weeks ago a very nice lady from one of the groups emailed me with many baby items she was selling. I picked a couple things to buy and then things got busy and I forgot we needed to pick them up. Well I didn't pay attention to what group she had emailed me from because I thought she lived in Zurich and I would just go 10 minutes or so on the tram to pick up the things but come to find out she lived in Lucerne which is about 50 minutes away by car or train.

Was it really worth it to drive that far?? After doing some price research we did decide that it would be worth it to go pick them up. And Sunday's weather was going to be beautiful so we decided to take the train and make a little day trip.

We got lunch at a yummy backery and ate lunch while looking at beautiful Lake Lucerne and the mountains.

Zann and I had been to Lucerne when we were visiting Switzerland before we moved here and somehow missed the famous Lion of Lucerene. When Susie visited we took a day trip to Lucerne and were able to see the oh so famous lion. It is now a joke between us because we read on Trip Advisor that this was one of the best sights in Europe and that is was so moving that some people weep when they see it. Not to put down the lion or anything but we didn't have the same reaction. The area in front of the lion is swarming with people taking pictures like he is going to get up and run away or something. So here is the lion.

We stopped by Mr. Pickwick's pub before heading to the train station to pick up out baby items. Then enjoyed the beautiful train ride home along the lake.
